The Course

The course is 3 miles from junction 27 of the M1 motorway, north of Nottingham in the Kirkby-in -Ashfield area near Mansfield. The long driveway of Hollinwell opens as a majestic vista, presenting an oasis of peace, natural beauty and abundant wildlife built on 400 acres of naturally draining sandstone land within Kirkby Forest.

Work began on laying out the course to the designs of Willie Park Junior, an open champion golfer in the Autumn of 1900.

The natural heathland of gorse, heather, fern and woodland traversing valleys, undulating hills and fairways are a sight to behold and a challenging test of golf. From the red tees, the course measures 5,871 yards. As the course is playable all year round, seasonal changes present their own test of golf – from fast fairways to the famous ‘pink’ grass and abundant heather beds, not to mention gorse bushes and bunkers.
